indexing

So you might have heard me referring to indexing and thought "what is indexing?" . well indexing is where you download a document and type the names and other information that you see.so far pretty easy right? well there is more. These records were not typed in 1940 so it is the indexer's job to decipher the handwriting.  So what is done with all these records ? well all these records get arbitrated by volunteers until they reach a consensus.Afterwards the get published on familysearch.org  . How will I fit it in to my schedule ? Indexing can be done at once but is usually spread out . Each project or "batch" has a due date witch is usually about a week from download. What if I have trouble reading the hand writing ? If you have trouble reading something you will have a help guide on the side of the page. What if I mess up ? First of all you will mess up. That is why there is arbitrators. they will see others answers and compare them all chances are some one was able to read that name.Indexing may seem hard at first but once you do it it will be one of your favorite hobbies.
